I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with experience providing individual, group, family, and couples therapy. I have worked in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, partial hospitalization programs, an intensive outpatient program, mobile crisis outreach team, community mental health agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. Once I began high school, I started to notice a deficit of mental healthcare professionals in the area. At the age of 15, I decided to pursue a degree in psychology and took my first college level psychology class. I continued my education at the University of Texas at San Antonio where I graduated with Tier II honors with a bachelors degree in psychology and a bachelors degree in criminal justice. I also completed an undergraduate thesis focusing on the relationship between personality traits and conflict tactics. I continued my education, receiving a Master's in Community Counseling, also from the University of Texas at San Antonio, in 2010. I completed a master's thesis with a focus on the perceptions of online counseling by sexual minorities as mitigated by factors such as location, phase of identity development, degree of outness, internet use, and demographic factors.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic models such as dialectical behavior therapy, creative therapies, psychodynamic therapy, client centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution focused therapy. I also integrate aspects of art, creativity, music, and cinematherapy in my practice and will taylor my approach to your stengths to find what will best work for you.
